Before we started Chewsy Lovers in 2013, I was doing a good bit of research on food blogs and I had a few favorites that I followed. One thing I noticed was that most of the blogs I followed weren’t run by African-Americans. I wondered why. “Where are the Black Food Bloggers?” I thought. Certainly we cook, and cook well. Food, in my opinion, is a huge part of our heritage and history, and our recipes are one major thing that has connected us through generations. I also wondered if there were any black food bloggers, why weren’t they on the same platforms as their non-Black colleagues. We (African-Americans) spend millions of dollars on food and entertaining every year, so with bloggers having an 80% influence on consumer purchases, you would think that these bloggers are people folks would want to know. “Are the recipes not good? Are the photos not mouthwatering?” I found out that none of this is true. There are great African-American Food Bloggers with delicious recipes and totally drool-worthy photos!
I found many of them through a Facebook group I began called Food Bloggers of Color, to offer support, resources, and to celebrate diversity in the “food blogosphere”. Upon joining, many of the members agreed with me on the disparity between bloggers in most food blog communities and began referring me to other bloggers that they admired and followed. I compiled a list of some of my favorites and I wanted to share them with you, so you can get in on some of this tasty action! Be sure to go check them out for some delicious inspiration.
Did you find any new blogs to love? Did you see some of your favorites? This is by no means a comprehensive list, just a few that we like, so if you’re a Black Food Blogger and you aren’t on the list, drop a comment and your blog so we can connect!
