Last week we talked about people who don’t eat breakfast because they aren’t hungry. This week for our #CHEWSBetterBreakfast Challenge we are going to talk about how to eat a better breakfast when you “don’t have time.” After people telling us they aren’t hungry, not having time or being too busy, is the second most popular
excuse reason we hear as to why they don’t eat breakfast in the mornings. So let’s bust this up right now! We’ve heard:
“I have too much going on.”
“I’m trying to pack lunches.”
“I’m trying to get the kids out of the door.”
“I’m trying to pack my own things for my work day.”
“I just don’t have time. I’m too busy.”
Family…Friends…Chewsy Lovers…you have time. We MAKE time for the things that are important to us, and loved ones…breakfast IS important! I’m a wife, and busy mom of three, so trust me. I understand being busy in the morning and trying to squeeze breakfast in. There are a few things you can do to eat a better breakfast if you’re a busy person and always on the go.
SMOOTHIES. It’s my favorite quick breakfast! I LOVE SMOOTHIES! I throw my fruit and greens in the blender with some ice and “milk of the day,” give it a 30-40 second buzz and breakfast is done!! You can prepare them on the weekend. Cut up all of your fruit and ingredients and put them in individual Ziploc bags and freeze them. That way the preparation is already done. You just pull out a fruit baggie, and your water, milk or whatever you use and you’re ready to go!
GRAB N’ GO. I like to have grab n’ go options stocked. When I first moved to Atlanta, I was a cook at a hotel very close to the airport. We made grab n’ go breakfasts regularly for the hotel guests because many of them were busy business travelers. These breakfasts included items like granola bars, breakfast cookies, fruits that carry well like apples, oranges and bananas. Basically, anything that is readily available without preparation that you can just grab and walk out of the door with. Yogurts work well also. These are great options to turn to if you are pressed for time and can’t cook breakfast or sit down and eat.
SCRAMBLED EGGS. Scrambled eggs with veggies are such a quick and delicious breakfast! You can make the process even quicker by cracking the eggs and chopping the veggies the night before and putting them in a small Tupperware container. In the morning just shake it up, season it, and scramble! Breakfast in minutes! Do you have two more minutes to spare? Warm up a whole grain tortilla and put your scrambled eggs in it! Breakfast burritos!
CEREAL. I’m a fan of cereal I can’t lie. Cold cereal is great, hot cereal, like grits or oatmeal are great…and can be quick! I usually choose cold cereal if I’m in a time crunch because hot cereal takes longer to prepare…especially if you have “the good kind.” 😉
Lastly, PLAN AND PREPARE. If you are serious about getting your breakfast in every morning, get yourself together at night. Make sure lunches are packed, everyone knows where their things that need to walk out of the house are, and even know what you plan to eat in the morning. That way the guesswork is out and you won’t be scrambling and trying to decide what to make, which is a waste of what? Time. (Which you already told me you don’t have. )
