Every year my family and I have a vision board party. We even include the kids and they do their own boards too. The past year has been pretty tough, after losing the matriarch of our family (my grandmother), but as the new year approaches I am getting excited about what it holds for me. Each year I have a theme or a word to focus in the new year. I have some pretty big plans this year. I’m looking for it to be my sweetest year yet! So I decided that would be my theme for the party. “The Sweetest Year Yet!” Armed with my theme, I grabbed some supplies for our vision boards from Walmart. I also grabbed two Cracker Barrel Cheese trays from the dairy section because I had a great appetizer idea for our New Year’s party.
Everyone, including myself was super tired from Christmas. So my plan for the New Year’s party was to keep everything simple…but delicious. I love cheese boards, especially for entertaining because they are easy to assemble and look beautiful. Many times people associate cheese boards and trays with the usual savory items like cured meats, vegetables, with a sprinkle of figs and grapes.
For my display, I wanted to do a sweet spin! I surrounded the cheese assembled cheese trays with berries, sweet nuts, chocolates, wafers, cookies, and pound cake squares. Though these are things you typically wouldn’t find on a cheese display, they work very well with cheese.
Cracker Barrel cheese trays, already came nicely plated with assorted cheeses including pepper jack, cheddar, asiago, and cheddar jack. Being able to purchase it this way saved me a ton of time, and the varieties gave us the freedom to experiment and really push the flavor envelope!
Strawberry Pepper Jack Pound Cake
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 Store Bought Pound Cake, cut into cubes
- Cracker Barrel Pepper Jack Cheese slices
Place cheese on top of pound cake square, and garnish with fresh strawberries! These can be made ahead of time and refrigerated.
They make a beautiful and interesting appetizer next to the cheese tray. This combo turned out delicious! Just play around with the flavors. Mix the grapes with the chocolate and cheddar. Or the asiago with shortbread. The whole idea of the sweet cheese display, was to encourage my family to be adventurous and try new things going into this sweet new year.
