Am I the only one who feels like school just got out?! I JUST picked my children up from the last car pickup of the year and it’s already time to take them back. I still have about two weeks, so it’s the perfect time to get my act together. I usually try and grab the kids’ supplies as I see them. This time of year, grocery stores are offering great deals on supplies because they know moms like me want to pick everything up in one swoop. (Thanks Kroger!) I can get school supplies, food and my trusty Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs to organize everything, all at a great price.
As a matter of fact, check out the following deal at your local Kroger. For great meal prep this back to school season, Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs in various sizes and a Sunday afternoon are all you need.

Buckaroo and I have two school-aged children that are involved in sports and other extracurricular activities, and a “twonager” who is always on the go with us. So, in my house, having a plan is essential. My saving grace this time of year is streamlining my family’s meal routines. Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs to the rescue! Not only do I use them to send field trip money or organize writing utensils for my kids, but they make feeding my family a breeze during a time that can otherwise be really hectic!
Here are a few tips that will help you rock your back-to-school meals:
Plan your meals, and not just dinner. Meal planning saves time and money. I don’t plan meals that are labor intensive or take forever on nights that I have to go to gymnastics and soccer practice. We eat something that’s quick so the kids can get in bed at a decent hour. My kids eat breakfast and snacks at home, so that goes into my meal plans for the week, as well.
Mise en Place! French for “everything in its place.” It really means prepare as much as you can before you actually cook. When I have downtime on the weekend, I look at my meals for the coming week and chop all the vegetables, make marinades, brown any meat and cut my chicken in pieces and season them. All these items go in my Ziploc® brand Freezer bags with Easy Open Tabs, and I’m ready to rock my week.
“Bag it and Tag it,” in a way that works for YOU. I don’t label my Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs with the date it was prepared. It’s not going to be in my fridge long enough to go bad. I label my meal prep bags with the date it needs to be served, what it needs to be served with and how to cook it (time and temperature). Now, it doesn’t matter if I get home first or my husband. Anyone can get dinner started, and there is no chaos.
Learn the art of “One Pot Wonders.” Chilis, soups and stews are all great back-to-school meals and your Ziploc® brand Freezer bags with Easy Open Tabs can hold just about everything! Prepare your meal on the weekend in your slow cooker and then it’s just a matter of pouring it out of the bag and heating it up. The new Ziploc® brand Freezer bags with Easy Open Tabs make it super easy to store and pour without making a mess. Add a garden salad that takes five minutes and you are made in the shade!
Cook more food than you need. I never cook just enough food for one sitting. More meat or cooked rice or pasta just needs a little Ziploc® brand love in the fridge, and later in the week it’s a completely different meal.
“Bag and Tag,” for the win once again! My kids are always arguing about who has more cookies, or grapes or ANYTHING during their after-school snack. The Ziploc® brand Sandwich bags with Easy Open Tabs allow me to portion out the snacks myself and leave them in a convenient place for them to grab after school or toss in their practice bags on the way out the door. I cut down confusion and can leave the refereeing for the soccer coaches.
That’s it! Implement one or two of these into your back–to-school routine and you will see a huge difference. The most important thing is to do most of the work when you have more time on your hands Oh! And buy Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs in a bunch of different sizes. You’ll be able to focus on things that are really important, like science projects and PTA meetings.
