This is a bittersweet time of year for us. Our favorite season is coming to an end! >>Insert pout.<< We love to entertain, especially during the holidays and football season, and when the playoffs roll around, while it is so exciting it also reminds the house will be empty and quiet on the weekends. For a few months anyway. If you know me, you know that I love RITZ® crackers with my whole heart, and I ALWAYS keep them on hand for entertaining. So, I went to Walmart to grab a few items for a delicious dip we love, and to get some Coke Zero. The snack and soft drink aisles are right next to each other. This game day combo is sure to help you score with your biggest fans, even the ones who are picky eaters.
I will be the first to tell you that the best restaurant I’ve ever been to is my own house, and I want everyone to feel like that. This recipe is super-easy, and so delicious! When Buck and I were dating, he made it all the time. It was so good, they put it on the menu at the restaurant where he was working. So this dip is near and dear to us, just like football season. The good thing about it, is when you put it on a RITZ® cracker, it’s already portioned out and you don’t have to fight over who is going to get the last scoop. It’s a perfect game day appetizer! Your guests are going to want to “take it to the house!” THEIR house!
If you grab all of your game day fixings at Walmart like I do, be sure to grab your Coke Zero (or any Coca-Cola) 500ml 6-packs 2 for $5 for the big game!
RITZ® Charred Onion Bites
1 large green onion, cut in rounds
1 large sweet onion, cut in rounds
1Tbsp. minced garlic
5Tbsp. Sour Cream
2Tbsp. Creole Mustard
1Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1/4tsp. Kosher Salt
1/4tsp. Black Pepper
1Tbsp. Hot Sauce
In a heavy bottom pan season onion with salt and pepper and cook on medium-high heat. Do not use any oil. Heat oven to 425. Once onions begin to sizzle, put in oven for about 10 minutes to let onions continue to carmelize.
You want them to be a deep brown, a black piece or two is fine. You want them charred. Meanwhile, in a bowl mix all other ingredients and set aside. Turn on your oven’s broiler for about 5 minutes. Don’t walk away from them! They will burn. There is a difference between burnt and charred.
Remove onions and chop finely. Add chopped onions to dip and mix well. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Top RITZ® crackers with the dip and garnish with green onion.
