During the holidays we always have a ton of family in and out of the house visiting. We probably watch more movies during Christmas time than we do the entire year. It’s always a great time to connect as a family. We can stay up as long as we want because no one has school, and we eat ALL of the delicious things!
With the new Blu-Ray/DVD release of Minions © 2015 Universal Studios. All rights reserved. on 12/8/15, I couldn’t wait to put together a fun movie night for the family. Ever since Despicable Me, we have been in love with the adorable and mischievous minions! I’m always looking for movies everyone will like, not just the kids. This one was a hit. Even ol’ Buckaroo was on board. Getting the Blu-Ray/DVD combo was just what we needed and it even had some cool special features the kids enjoyed watching. Yes. We are that family that watches all of the bonus features.

Planning the menu is one of my favorite parts of movie night. One menu item that goes without saying for our family movie nights is chicken wings. We have to have wings or it’s not real. Ha! So I created a wing recipe as a nod to my favorite character in the movie, Scarlet Overkill. She was sweet, spicy, and fierce honey! I usually don’t take the villain’s side, but everything about her style I just loved. She was kicking butt and taking names.
These wings would be a great addition to your movie watching party over the holidays! They are on the sweet side, but have spicy kick.
We also made minion ice cream sandwiches which were super easy. We just took two chocolate chip cookies and pressed one scoop of vanilla ice cream in between. Then rolled the sides in yellow sprinkles.
Saucy Scarlet’s Party Wings
4lb Chicken Wing Sections (Drummettes)
Oil, for frying
1/2 c. Sweet Chili Sauce
1/2c. Ranch Dressing
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
1 tsp Kosher Salt
1Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1tsp Garlic Powder
Heat oil in heavy skillet or deep fryer to medium heat. Fry wings until golden, and crispy, about six minutes on each side depending on the size of the wings. Drain excess oil on paper towels on a plate.
Meanwhile, mix sauce ingredients together.
Toss wings in sauce. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
