I just love the “bourbon chicken” in the mall. But I will be honest, once I learned how to make “the sauce” I’ve never been back. Now this isn’t a recipe for that sauce, but the flavors remind me of it. Did I get your mouth tuned up for it? Ha! I’m sorry. If you love it, you’ll love these too. Promise.
This week (and every Wednesday this month) I’m teaming up again with my girl Dawn, of Mama Harris’ Kitchen to bring some excitement to your game day menu with some delicious wings. The ULTIMATE football food in my opinion. If you missed my Salt & Vinegar Wings you can catch them here. Dawn made delicious Grilled Honey Sriracha Wings with an Herbed Yogurt Dip! My Citrus Bourbon Wings have a little Asian flair, with a bright orange citrus note and deep bourbon flavor to give it balance.
Citrus Bourbon Wings
4lb Chicken Wing Sections (Drummettes)
Oil, for frying
1/2 c. Soy Sauce
Juice and Peel of 1 Large Orange
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
2tsp Sherry Vinegar
1tsp Minced Garlic
2Tbsp Unsalted Butter
Heat oil in heavy skillet or deep fryer to medium heat. Fry wings until golden, and crispy, about six minutes on each side depending on the size of the wings. Drain excess oil on paper towels on a plate. Meanwhile, on medium heat, heat all ingredients (excluding butter) in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn heat down to a simmer for 2-3 minutes. Allow the flavors and ingredients to smoothly come together. Remove from heat and add butter. Toss wings in sauce. Garnish with green onions and serve.
What’s on your game day menu this weekend?
Just Wing It,
