“You Are My Sunshine” is probably one of the first songs I ever learned aside from The Alphabet song, and it brings back so many happy memories for me from my childhood every time I hear it. Things were so carefree then…no bills, no responsibility, just go to school and sing awesome songs! Of course I didn’t come to this revelation of the “simpler times” until I was an adult with children and bills of my own. This Valentine’s Day I had a fun party idea to remind some of my favorite couples of those simpler times. I used the “You are my Sunshine” song and the Capri Sun 40 Count Variety Pack, to create a playful themed Valentine’s Day brunch party for adults. Sometimes us grown-ups need to get together, let loose, and have lighthearted, carefree fun! I want them to enjoy themselves, act giddy, and you know, stare at each other with googly eyes like they did when love was young and new.
Heading to Sam’s Club was a no-brainer for me because we shop there regularly for our food business. I can always find what I need in the quantities I need them in. This was no different. I picked up Capri-Sun pouches (on the juice aisle) because they are fun, and with them coming in a 40 count variety pack it took all of the guesswork out of what to make to drink. Nothing! There’s a flavor in there for everyone! It features ten of each of the following favorite flavors: Fruit Punch, Pacific Cooler, Wild Cherry, and Strawberry Kiwi. There are also NO artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, or preservatives and 25% less sugar than other leading juice drinks. So I can still party like a kid, but drink responsibly like a grown-up! I’m winning!
As you know, here at Chewsy Lovers we have a tried and true formula to use when planning a party. So I am using food, favors, and fun in this sunny theme to warm the hearts of our guests and make this a Valentine’s Day they will never forget!
Food – When serving brunch you want to have a nice balance of breakfast and lunch. Seven to nine menu items is usually a good spread for a party of twenty people. For this party think menu items that include yellow, orange or even tropical ingredients, or that bring back those happy food memories from childhood. Our menu included:
Assorted Capri Sun
Turkey Sausage Breakfast Pizzas*
Lemon Poppyseed Muffins
Fresh Vegetables with Kraft Peppercorn Ranch Dressing for dipping
Polly-O Mozzarella & Cheddar Twists
Chicken Salad Sandwiches*
Coconut-Banana Cheesecake Pudding*
* Recipes are included in our playbook below.
The fresh fruit was arranged like a sun to tie into the theme.
Favors – Pictures make great favors! Make a DIY photo booth! For inexpensive favors, hang up and piece of bright fabric on a wall and set up your camera and tripod. Allow couples to take pictures in the “photo booth” with fun props and signs. Since “You are my Sunshine” is the theme, be sure to include warm weather props like big sunglasses, even throw some Capri-Suns in the mix! Don’t forget, it’s a Valentine’s Day party so make sure your signs have cute, loving sayings on them. You can get a few of our signs for this party in our party plan book below. Email everyone their photos a few days later with an awesome thank you note for attending your party and making it great!
Fun – If you have a long table, make a point to sit each couple across from one another, so they can stare in each others’ eyes and be mushy. That’s what this is all about! In addition to the photo booth, playing a little game of “Mad Libs” would also be fun. Place one for each person at their seat and let them make up their own special story and then share with their spouse. You can even take turns sharing the stories and give a prize for the funniest or sweetest one. It will be fun to see what people come up with. A “You are My Sunshine” themed one is included in our plans today if you want to use that one.
